# AWS VPC IPAM error: The allocation size is too big for the pool

If you're getting a "The allocation size is too big for the pool" when trying to create a new resource, such as a VPC, using an IPAM pool, be sure to check the existing allocations of the pool.

Navigate to the Amazon VPC IP Address Manager (opens new window) console, click on Pools and then on the Pool ID of the pool that you are trying to use. Then, click on the Allocations tab.

If you've previously created and deleted resources that used the pool, the allocations might still exist.

You can try to release the allocation manually by selecting the allocation, clicking on Actions, and then clicking on Ignore and release VPC allocation.

Also, take note that, according to the AWS VPC: Release an allocation (opens new window) documentation, it could take a few minutes for the CIDR to become available again if you're using IPAM in the Advanced Tier, or up to 48 hours if you're using the Free Tier.
